Kamloops |
I abruptly woke up at 8:10 and realized that we had all slept through the alarm. I decided to assume the role of the alarm clock and immediately repeated “wake up!” in an annoying tone until Katherine, Estrella, and Christina woke up. Estrella and Christina left the Hotel to move the car (We were 15 minutes late moving the car from the 12 hour parking lot but thankfully the Canadians were a bit lazy with checking for that and we were not penalized). Christina and Estrella returned with McDonald’s lattes in hand ready to hit the road to Lake Louise. An hour or so drive led us to the Lake. As we huddled around to view Yosemite-esque scenery, we all took a moment to reflect on the beauty. Lake Louise was so picturesque it was like looking at a postcard, the water was almost too blue to be real.
Energized from the pretty scenery, we continued on our seven hour journey to the city of Kamloops. The car-ride, as always, was filled with lively conversation. As Estrella pulled into the hotel parking lot we were greeted by rude bikers . Slightly frightened we pulled into another spot. Katherine stayed in the hotel room searching for Georgetown classes because her registration was tonight, and the rest of us decided to explore the city of Kamloops. After being disappointed that the Italian restaurant we looked up earlier was closed, we took a walk down to the river. At the river, we asked a couple to take a picture of us and found out they were also from Southern California! The first time we met Californians, and it was in the small city of Kamloops. As we journeyed through the main street , we all remarked how it reminded us of Montrose , except in Kamloops it was much more empty. We walked by the train tracks and read signs throughout the city explaining the history of it.
We continued to Harold’s—cheapest food in Canada! (besides McDonald’s) . Estrella revealed her wish to name her future child Nube (Spanish for cloud) but we decided that we would pronounce it n00b. We will be such great aunties. We are looking forward to our next big city, Vancouver!
Best:
- Mr. Sainburg's texts
- Real food
- the blue waters of Lake Louise
- Phone calls and jealous
- Lots of time to relax
- Planning our next KECH trip (a little prematurely)
Worst:
- Motorcyclists in the parking lot
- Lack of humans in Kamloops
- Leaving Banff :(
- Estrella's child Nube
- Accidentally rubbing up against the bug-splattered car
